The Iron Throne is so close we can taste it. The final countdown to season 7 of Game of Thrones is here, along with the intensive, debate-filled viewing parties. We at Insight Editions want to help you host the most epic Game of Thrones gathering since the Red Wedding.
In this guide, we provide you with decorations, goodies for your guests, and a cocktail that would turn Cersei into a lovable house guest. Although this is a comprehensive guide, we won’t be going over the common duties of a host, like holding the door for your guests. Let’s start with tips to turn a boring e-vite into a keepsake that your guests will love.
Send Out Invitations in Style
Creating a Facebook event and sending e-vites may be convenient, but physical invitations can go a long way. Set the tone of your party from the moment your guests receive their invitation in the mail with The Game of Thrones Deluxe Stationery Set. Each stationery set comes with envelopes, writing paper, a paper weight, and wax stamp, all themed around a house of your choice. When your guests see your letter in the mail, they won’t want to miss your party.
Grammar can also go a long way, use language fitting to Westeros and let your guests know that you “summon them to your domain.” Finally, top off your invitation with the iconic Game of Thrones font. Your invitation will be so thematic, the only aspect missing is delivery by crow.
Now that we’ve delivered the Night King of invitations, turn your home into a land worthy of a winter invasion. Game of Thrones is a long series, with a complicated story, help your guests recall the storyline with these decorations. Hang Game of Throne Character Posters throughout your home and label each character with their current status; whether it is deceased, missing, or their current location. The land of Westeros is large, with many notable locations, set the Game of Thrones Pop Up Guide on a table and watch your guests recreate the iconic introduction.
Keep your guests on their toes and give them a little giggle, play the infamous Rains of Castamere on a loop throughout your home. Your guests will be looking all over your home for secret, crossbow wielding assassins. The light throughout your home can pull your guests right out of the Game of Thrones theme you’ve set up, if possible dim lights throughout your home and set medieval-style candles on your tables.
Although Game of Thrones is a serious series, full of death and misfortune, you can always have fun with your decorations. Turn your porcelain throne into a DIY Iron Throne with a wall decal for a good laugh with your guests.
Every party needs a central set piece, something to impress even the biggest Game of Thrones fan. The Game of Thrones Astrolabe, inspired by the piece in the opening, stands at over 13” tall with articulating rings displaying sigils of the Great Houses of Westeros. This piece is such a spectacle, your party may be too distracted to watch the episode.
Game of Thrones is one of the most stressful tv series for any fan. Keep your guests relaxed and ready for anything with this Game of Thrones inspired cocktail from Go Ahead, Make My Drink.
Milk of Poppy
This potion, brewed by the Maesters of Westeros, acts a powerful pain-killer and is said to be milky-white in color.
2 ½ oz citrus vodka
¼ oz orgeat syrup
¼ oz lemon juice
½ oz triple sec
3 – 5 mint leaves
In the bottom of a mixing glass, muddle the mint leaves and the lemon juice. Add the rest of the ingredients and ice to the glass. Shake everything and strain it into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a few fresh mint leaves.
Before your party, come up with a list of actions that might occur during the show. A comprehensive list would include items like; Jon Snow mounts a horse, Tyrion gets drunk, and someone mentions Joffrey Baratheon. Create premade cards for your guests, let them choose, and have a gift for the winner. This can make guests excited about the most mundane parts of the show. Have you ever seen an audience cheer because Jon Snow mounted a horse?
9pm has finally come around and it is time to jump back into HBO’s masterpiece. The smallest details in an episode of Game of Thrones can give viewers huge leads for upcoming episodes. Have a stack of Game of Thrones journals available for your guests and let them choose according to house, location, or position of power. Our Game of Thrones journals come in a variety of sizes from large formats to smaller pocket journals. Encourage them to write notes and speculation during the airing, this can lead to great conversation at end of your night. You never know, some of your guests’ wildest speculations may come to fruition.
