ASSOCIATE PUBLICIST

Job Description


Primary Responsibility: This role will support the strategy and execution of Insight Editions publicity campaigns across all divisions. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Publicity, you will be responsible for developing and executing publicity plans, collaborating with authors and illustrators to plan publicity and author events, and creating press packets and branded assets as well as supporting lead publicists when needed.


What We Are Looking For: The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of publicity experience working with licensed products. You will have developed and launched publicity campaigns, including crafting press materials, worked with national and local media outlets and communicated with authors/talent in planning author events. You will have experience collaborating directly with journalists, websites, bloggers/influencers, and other members of the media and you are an effective communicator that can comfortably strategize with key in-house stakeholders. We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented publicist that is focused on increasing visibility of our titles across all channels.


Detailed Responsibilities include but are not limited to: In this role, you will have responsibility for implementing front list and key title publicity campaigns for our list. You will collaborate with our editorial teams and internal and external sales representatives and licensors to ensure maximum exposure and sales across multiple platforms. A key deliverable of this role to create impactful and timely publicity campaigns that grow sales and support our licensing partners media plans and strategies. To excel in this position, it is essential to be highly creative and motivated to grow your base of industry contacts while being a supportive and collaborative member of the marketing team. Additionally, we are always looking for team members that have a passion for pop culture and experience working with licensed content.

                          


Key Responsibilities:

  • Proven ability to execute comprehensive and high-impact publicity campaigns, including booking national and local media.
  • Experience tracking paid media and social media strategies and communicating key findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to write impactful press materials including one sheets, pitch letters, interview questions and create full press kits for campaigns.
  • Willingness to assist lead publicists as needed across multiple divisions on all aspects of media campaigns.
  • A history of building and maintaining strong relationships with members of the press including broadcast, radio/podcasts, print/digital, trades, etc. with a particular emphasis on outlets that cover entertainment.
  • A history of organizing effective media lists, press pitches, and coordinate interviews for publicity campaigns and book/media tours.
  • Comfortable pitching ideas and suggestions and strategies during internal strategy calls and other regular internal touchpoints.
  • Research media outlets as needed for assigned projects and titles.
  • Collaborate and communicate regularly with key in-house departments, including Sales, and Editorial to ensure awareness of current and future publicity campaigns.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 2+ years of trade book publicity and marketing experience
  • Effective presentation skills and communication in both internal and external situations,
  • Advanced or Expert proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Professional, MS Office Suite, Google Suite. FileMaker preferred, but not required.

EDITORIAL ASSISTANT - INSIGHT EDITIONS

Position Description

Insight Editions seeks an Editorial Assistant to join a publishing team that is passionate about the licensing brands we represent and committed to creating content that connects fans and readers with the most fun and innovative pop culture books in the country. In this role you will provide support to the Insight Editions editorial team within the entertainment division. We have a thorough training program that provides hands-on learning throughout the editorial process. This role will work with a variety of publishing formats across multiple brands including Harry Potter, Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, Pokémon, New Regency Films, Minecraft, and many others. Experience with licensed publishing is a plus. The role is a great opportunity for a candidate to learn the editorial process for a global publishing company that publishes across many formats. The assistant will report to the Editorial Director and collaborate closely with creative services team members within a dynamic, fast- paced environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Editorial Director and editorial team on all aspects of acquisitions and project management of Insight Edition titles including brainstorming, research, concept development, creation of pitch materials, writing title outlines, rights & clearance tracking, licensor approval tracking, updating title information in FileMaker and distribution portals.
  • Assist in the creation/gathering of information for marketing and sales collateral, including sales copy, sell sheets, catalog copy, sales decks, and brochures.
  • Interact with professionalism with authors, artists, designers, filmmakers, licensors, agents, in- house staff in all departments of Insight Editions and, on occasion, with licensors.
  • Gather and sort assets for use in sales materials and book layouts, create book maps.
  • Search and analyze competitive market research and compile reports.
  • Assist with ongoing database management projects.
  • Take accurate notes in meetings and distribute to teams.
  • Track project development costs, process invoices for approval.
  • Perform general administrative duties, such as managing ongoing meetings, emailing updates, tracking approvals with licensors.


Qualifications:

  • BA in English or a related field.
  • 1 to 2 years editorial experience a plus, preferably within a publishing environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A passion for books and writing; enthusiasm for pop culture a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Workspace.
  • Knowledge of the film, television, and gaming industries.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a challenging environment.


This is a full-time remote position based on the east coast.

Salary: $42,000/yr

Insight Editions is searching for an experienced, enthusiastic, and collaborative EDITOR to join a publishing team that is passionate about the licensing brands we represent and committed to creating content that connects fans and readers with the most fun and innovative pop culture books in the country. In this position, you will assist in acquiring books, and manage high volume projects throughout the entire editorial process. This role will oversee a variety of publishing formats across multiple brands including Harry Potter, Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, Pokémon, New Regency Films, Minecraft, and many others.

Experience with licensed publishing is a plus. In this role, you will work closely with in-house design, production, sales, and marketing teams to successfully shape, shepherd, and launch innovative product releases across multiple formats. At least 3-5 years of recent experience editing books is essential.

Qualified applicants must be extremely detail-focused, and able to manage multiple deadlines, expectations, and projects while working closely with authors, packagers, and freelancers.


 Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Manage 15-18 projects per year
  • Experience in acquiring books with commercial appeal is needed
  • Research industry trends and develop new book concepts and formats. A deep familiarity and appreciation for the subject matter is a plus
  • Work closely with editorial, production editorial, design teams and all creative service teams to ensure manuscripts and sales materials are delivered as early as possible to supply necessary materials for long lead media and sales and marketing schedules
  • Experience building item level P&Ls and managing projects at or under budget
  • Liaise with sales and marketing, and oversee the development of marketing collateral
  • Collaborate with design team on design aesthetic, illustrations, and photography for all projects
  • Develop and foster a close working relationship with authors, illustrators, artists and freelance partners
  • Manage projects from start to finish, working closely with internal production editorial, design, and production teams
  • Maintain budgets and manage your portion of project schedules
  • Write sales, marketing, and cover copy

DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND PUBLICITY

Primary Responsibility: This role will oversee the strategy and execution of Insight Editions marketing and publicity across all imprints while also directly managing publicity for your own list of high-impact, high-profile titles. Reporting to the Global Head of Sales and Marketing, you will be responsible for meeting the necessary lead times and budgets established for each title while maximizing all promotional opportunities. You will manage a staff of nine including publicists,

marketers, and designers.


What We Are Looking For: The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of direct marketing and publicity experience with proven success as a book publicist and title marketer. You have developed and executed comprehensive marketing and promotional campaigns, including crafting press materials, securing national and local media coverage and planning author events. You will have cultivated strong relationships with journalists, websites, bloggers/influencers, and other members of the media and you are an effective and inspiring leader that can comfortably collaborate with our licensing partners and effectively communicate with management, as well as key in-house stakeholders. We are looking for an inspiring leader and mentor to direct a team of creatives.
