MANAGING EDITOR

Job Description

Insight Editions is seeking an experienced managing editor who will be responsible for project oversight, schedule management, data integrity, and internal communication across departments within their respective imprints. This is a fun, high-energy, high-demand environment requiring expert problem-solving skills and a positive, can-do attitude. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years experience working on highly designed, full-color lifestyle books and products, and have a passion for the many pop-culture fandoms we have the pleasure of working on each day. 


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English or related field
  • 3-4 years in managing editorial or production editorial at a Trade publishing house
  • Experience project managing highly designed, full-color lifestyle book and products
  • Experience managing diverse formats, including stationery, book-plus, pop ups, and oracle decks, a plus
  • Excellent project management and communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of print publishing process, formats, and book manufacturing
  • Ability to prioritize across multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Highly motivated, productive, and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a list of 50-60 active titles at a time
  • Meet weekly with editors to discuss their titles, troubleshoot problems, and proactively address concerns
  • Lead divisional WIP meetings, resolving issues effectively and keeping the editorial tracker up to date
  • Manage schedule creation and maintenance for the life of each project
  • Schedule + facilitate internal kickoff meetings to review P&L/budget, timeline, assets, and sales materials, and to proactively identify concerns
  • Maintain accurate metadata in FileMaker; facilitate company-wide change memos
  • Style manuscripts and route transmittals to the design department for layout
  • Manage freelancers for copyedit, proofread, indexing, and other tasks as needed
  • Collate edits for design and check implementation
  • Run final checks on files before prepress and at ozalids
  • Processes and approves freelancer invoices

Compensation

$60,000/yr-$70,000/yr
